Patellofemoral pain syndrome
Grinding Test

- Performed by manually compressing the patellofemoral joint and rubbing the joint surfaces against each other
- The patient simultaneously contracts the thigh muscles
- The test can cause pain at the front of the knee joint
- Many causes for a positive test, some may have cartilage injuries but many have a muscular imbalance in the knee joint
- Physical therapy with emphasis on strengthening the M. vastus medialis, but many also improve without treatment
